Cyprus offers several tax provisions that may be relevant to remote professionals, freelancers, and business owners. Eligibility depends on tax residency, income sources, and individual circumstances.
Tax-free allowance on annual income
Cyprus applies a tax-free allowance to the first portion of annual taxable income, currently 22,000 euro, with progressive bands above it. How it applies depends on your income sources.
Non-Dom benefits for qualifying residents
Qualifying Cyprus tax residents who are not domiciled here may be exempt from Special Defence Contribution on dividends and interest, subject to eligibility requirements.
The 60-day tax-residency route
Cyprus offers a 60-day tax-residency route alongside the standard 183-day rule. All of its conditions must be met, including not being tax resident elsewhere and maintaining genuine ties to Cyprus.
A wide double-tax treaty network
Treaties with more than 65 countries may help avoid the same income being taxed twice. Cyprus also currently levies no inheritance tax.

Questions remote workers ask us.
Yes. Many people work remotely from Cyprus for employers or clients based elsewhere. EU, EEA and Swiss passport holders can register and stay freely. Non-EU nationals usually need a permit, and Cyprus has a dedicated Digital Nomad Visa for remote workers employed or self-employed outside Cyprus.
It is a residence permit for non-EU nationals who work remotely for companies or clients registered outside Cyprus. It is issued for one year and can be renewed for a further two years, and family members can be included. Applicants need to show a stable monthly income and valid health insurance.
Fibre is widely available in Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos, with typical home packages between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps. Mobile 4G and 5G coverage is strong along the coast, and there are coworking spaces in every major city.
Personal income is tax-free on the first 22,000 euro and then taxed in bands from 20% to 35%. New residents who qualify for Non-Domiciled status pay no Special Defence Contribution on dividends and interest for up to 17 years, and Cyprus has no wealth, gift or inheritance tax plus double-tax treaties with more than 65 countries. Tax residency can be reached through the 183-day rule or the special 60-day rule. This is general guidance, not tax advice.
